This was the 13th Milano Tattoo convention and again it lives up to all the hype. It really is one of
the best with world class artist all around. Anyone who can make it
should it's worth the trip.
We made it back home safe and sound from the show. Last time we got messed up on our way out with the snowstorm and this time we flew into a snowstorm coming back. Poor Brad had no bags last year so we were off to a much better start this time. We visited the Duomo, and checked out the roof that we missed last year and were'nt dissapointed with a clear view and warm weather.
We didn't do much tattooing on Friday but by Saturday everyone was swamped! I was lucky enough to start the day with a client who I'd tattooed in New York before. It's nice to have a familiar face at a convention to work with and even better in a country that you don't speak the laguage. I made a feeble attempt to pick up some Italian but I got a long way to go, I think if I keep at it from this point on next year will be better. Four weeks didn't really do too much.
Milan is great people were getting really fun stuff. I even got to tattoo an Italian bullrider, who would think there's cowboys in Europe. The only complaint was that at times it was so crowded you couldn't move on the floor. That's a good thing to have to complain about, there's nothing worse than a slow show. I was tired of the bread and cheese diet we were on all weekend. As a New Yorker we're spoiled being able to eat anything at all hours but in Italy if you want to eat past 10:00 pm you're doomed
Thankfully there's a restaurant that stays open for us late. The place
is packed with tired hungry tattooers from the show every night.
Saturday we worked so late we actaully ran to the restaurant we were so
afraid we wouldn't make it in time.
It's a gruelling weekend there's sensory overload with cramped tattooing no cushy shop with nice chairs and good lighting. But it's really all about meeting new people that you wouldn't normally run into and getting to catch up with all our friends that we only get to see at the conventions.
