Billed as "A unique pictorial study of America's most personal art
form - at the height of it's popularity at the turn-of-the-century."
This book is a look at the scetch book of Victorian tattooer C.H.
Fellowes. The Tattoo Archives say that, " not much is known about
Fellowes. All that remains is his scetch book and a hand tattooing kit,
which were found in 1966 in Providence, Rhode Island and later sold to
a private collector."
Fellowes scetch book features mostly,
"patriotic emblems, mothers, and sweethearts, mythological heroes and
beast, sinking ships, daggers and flowers, and less than decorous body
art." The preface of The Tattoo Book has "A Short History of the
Strange Custom of Tattooing" by William C. Sturtevant from the
Department of Anthropology at the Smithsonian Institution. This book
was published in 1971 I'm not sure if there are any reprints out there
but there are some great pages of designs mostly printed in black and
red with a few pencil drawings included. Check out the nice lady
reclining on a giant fish tattoo I added to Bailey's "worst ever" post.
Someone needs to get her tattooed.

So yesterday I had the most horrible day. every cumstomer that got
tattooed by me was in a rush . the first guy came in at twelve and
neede to be at work at 3 , but he left and did not return till 1:30
then a lady came in who wanted 3 tattoos as fast as I could do plus she
fought me the entire time.....I mean literally fought me. she grabbed
my arm and flailled around like a dying fish. basically what i am
getting at is if you don't have enough time to get tattooed come back
when you do or get a speed tattoo by an irritated little man. your
choice

This story actually ran in September but the other day I saw Nikki (pictured) who never got to see the piece so I promised I'd post it. They had shot this months earlier but I was told the Daily News editor HATES tattoos and didn't want to run it at all so it got put aside. When it finally ran it only ran in the early edition so a lot of people missed it.
Thanks to Linda Rosier who took the pictures and Ethan Sacks who wrote the story. The story didn't even run with the picture it was only posted online
The caption reads, "Nikki McDonnell arrives at Fun City on St.Marks Place to get long awaited Sacred Heart tattoo from Michelle Myles, who goes to work on her. Pain's "the price you pay," McDonnell says."

Close.......Jamie comforts Sienna in New Yorks Daredevil Tattoo Parlour
British Tabloid The Sun reports....
SIENNA AND JAMIE GET A TATTOO?
Ah? It must be love.
SIENNA MILLER (Layer Cake) and her model boyfriend JAMIE BURKE (singer for Bloody Social) got tattooed together in New York last Friday.
But I'm pleased to report the handsome pair steered clear of any slushy love hearts or angels.
Instead Jamie got his inner upper arm tattooed with Aleaiacta est
(latin for ?The Die is Cast?), while Sienna eventually opted for a
traditional sparrow tattooed on her wrist.
A source said: "Sienna was very nervous. But Jamie held her hand the whole time as she winced in pain."
The tattooing was by Guest artist Willie Perry

Tattoo artist are the worst customers. Take Chuck for example. He
gets his arm tattooed last night, and he's sucking down the margarita's
like CRAZY. Out of control. The worst thing about drunk Chuck is how
affectionate he gets. If you don't watch out you might get a big sloppy
Chuck kiss or a smack in the ass, whatever. Boltz managed to keep him
upright and finished with flying colors. Chuck managed to not puke in
the shop which keeps me happy (he said the upChucking came later ). I
know he was totally psyched to get back to work bright and early to
tattoo that rowdy bunch of school teachers in town from Alaska (hey
ladies! come back soon!) It was a fun night and luckily we have
pictures to show Chuck what a good time he had cause he can't remember.
He's probably going to spend the next few days swimming and picking the
scabs.
When you tattoo your friends expect the worst, that's what friends are for
