my name is Jason June. I am new to Daredevil/ Fun City studios. i've been here for about 5 months, give or take, with travelling and New York city licensing nightmares considered. I started working in Tampa, Florida closing in on 4 years ago. I cut my teeth in a few shady establishments, pulling bitch work and tribal shifts for a while until i got my chops up, then I said a tearful goodbye to leathery skin and indoor smoking and headed for greener pastures and not so greener toothed clients. we all gotta start somewhere right? turning turds into gold is what has always been an inspiration in this industry to me anyway. a tradition of whores, sailors, bikers , criminals and people of less than reputable character adorning their skin with a memento mori attitude that leaves little left to question and even less to deny. Turning the most morally repulsive act of desecration of " god's holy house" into a gallery of remnders of how close we are to meeting whatever god might be at the end keeps me holding those whores and criminals in a certain respect that few preachers have ever earned.
anyway, i moved on to Atomic tattoos in Tampa and worked with a crew of really great dudes and ladies for about a year until i decided to take to the road. i wandered from guest spot to guest spot from state to country for about a year before being offered the spot here at Daredevil. there's more info on my travels on my website jasonjune.com , as well as more pictures of all kinds of good shit.
the road here has been difficult and exciting and i can only feel excitement at the opportunity i have earned to prove my chops with some of the best in the world.

What a hectic day. I tattooed till late and then had to get down to the shop at 7:30 AM!!!!! in order to let in like 20 people from this production crew. This was the classic bait and switch. We've done so much filming lately I don't really think twice about it. The Rescue Me shoot was a huge crew but those guys were in and out, just like that even though they shut down two blocks of St.Marks in the process they were FAST. I guess that's TV though. I ask these people how much stuff they have and the guys like, "oh just one camera" Yeah one camera, a truck, lights, a boom and a crew of twenty. He tells me it's for this little viral internet ad. (little ad for LIPTON TEA). Starts out asking to come in from 9 till 2. That becomes 7:30 till 2 then "can we make it 7 since we have to be out by 2?"......NO. Give them an inch... So the ad is about this tea that is supposed to rejuvenate you. A little grandma lady with white hair comes in and ask the big scary tattoo guy to put a tramp stamp on her and is all happy to get her little tattoo, you know, while she smokes and chews gum etc. Should be out in September they said. Let me know if anyone comes across it.

It's kind of funny cause I just did a temporary tattoo for a Snapple commercial. I did the tattoo for this one too, a sweet litlle tribal butterfly. To make the shoot extra fun they shut off the AC so they could hear everyone sweating on tape. That was kind of funny though because the crew kept whispering "You should kick us out, I didn't say anything but you should kick us out' so at 2:00 sharp I did. 2;30 as I'm scooting out the door tto make my 3:00 at Fun City this lady shows up from ABC cause they want to shoot some story TOMORROW so I was late. What a day, no rest for the wicked.

There is just nothing more tedious than answering shop email. Here's a couple this week

"My brother has always wanted to be a tattoo artist and doesn't know where to begin learning. He is a great drawer and has pic's of his work he just don't know where to go to learn can you help me."

what, help you get rid of your loser brother. He must be really motivated to have his sister out trying to get him a job. This reminds me of the time some lady called the shop asking us if we could teach her son to tattoo. I'm like, "Are you kidding me" she couldn't understand why everyone in the shop laughed at her. She used to be the mom asking the class bully to stop beating up on precious, now she's trying to get him in a tattoo shop so we can beat up on him.

Here's another one (This one seems fake).

...I teach a class at SVA One of the assignments we gave our class was to do ads or posters for
FUNCITY TATTOO. I did a few myself. I thought it would be neat to send you guys a sample to see what you thought.
I have always enjoyed these challenges especially for a great product
like FUNCITY.

Product?I like how it? hones in on our taget audience of conservative office workers and you can hardly see the name. I'll stop before I hurt someones feelings.

We were all worked up for nothing. There's this huge banner covering the whole side of a building across the street from Daredevil Tattoo showing a huge mall to be built complete with a roller coaster and luxury stores. The way this neighborhood is going what with skyscrapers being built on the corner, fancy hotels popping up left and right we were worried. But it turns out it was all for show. They were filming for the new JJ Abrams movie some call Cloverfield. I don't know if you've seen the trailer it's the one with all the hipsters hanging out when the city suddenly gets attacked by some sort of monster. The fun continued with more filming over on Orchard Street on Monday night . They destroyed the block, crushed some cars littered the area with debris and brought in firetrucks, ambulances, police and filled the air with fake dust. Gawker posted some pictures and reports to inform the gullible hipsters that it's not a real mall going up. I just hope the sign doesn't give anyone any ideas for that empty lot. Gothamist also posted pictures of the devastation .JJ Abrams Cloverfield JJ Abrams Cloverfield
